The Friendship Fade
Jun 27, 2025Today, let's talk about something that is a potential heartbreaker - watching friendships slowly drift away, like a ship leaving the dock.
You know what I mean, right? That friend you used to text every day who suddenly feels like a stranger. The one who knew all your secrets now gets updates through social media. It's not that anyone did anything wrong - life just... happened.
It just happens. Maybe you got married and she's still single. Maybe she had babies and you're focused on your career. Maybe you moved across town, or she found a new job, or life just pulled you in different directions like a tug-of-war in slow-motion.
Here's what I want you to realize: friendship seasons are real, and they're okay. Just like trees look different in spring than they do in winter, friendships change as we grow and change too.
Some friendships are meant to be lifelong - those rare gems who stick with you through every season, every move, every life change. But others? They're beautiful for the season they're in, and that's perfectly okay too.
The college friend who helped you survive finals might not be the same person you need now that you're juggling kids and mortgages. The work buddy who made Monday mornings bearable, might fade when one of you switches jobs. It doesn't mean the friendship was fake or worthless - it was exactly what you needed at the time.
But here's the thing - some friendships are worth fighting for. If there's someone you miss, reach out. Send that text. Make that call. Don't let pride or awkwardness steal a friendship that still has life in it.
And for the ones that naturally fade? Thank them in your heart for what they gave you, then make space for new friends who fit your current season.
Friendship isn't about quantity or keeping score. It's about having people who get you, support you, and make life a little brighter - whether that's for a season or a lifetime.
Your heart has room for both - the friends who stay and the beautiful memories of those who don't. Now you know.
For the days you need wisdom, warmth, and a little hope
